Police search for gunmen in fatal San Gabriel cafe shooting
Detectives are looking today for two masked gunmen who burst into a San Gabriel coffee shop and started firing their weapons, fatally shooting one person and wounding six others.
Officers responding to reports of a fight at the Coffee House in the 700 block of East Valley Boulevard at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday arrived to find seven people shot, said Deputy Aura Sierra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the others were taken to hospitals, Sierra said.
Investigators say the shooting may be gang-related and that the gunmen targeted a group of people sitting at a table. The gunmen were last seen running away from the scene, she said.

Leads still scarce in coffee shop shooting

SAN GABRIEL - The shooting death of a man inside a Valley Boulevard coffee house left the floor covered with large spots of smeared blood and the restaurant in disarray with tables and chairs strewn about, according to a coroner's report obtained Friday.
The report, written by Los Angeles County Department of Coroner investigator Stacy Bell, describes the Feb. 5, shooting death of Hung Van Nguyen, 37, of Westminster.
"Two asian males entered the Coffee House armed with a revolver and a semi-automatic handgun," Bell wrote. "Without incident they began firing at the table where the decendant was sitting, after which they began firing randomly at other guests in the restaurant."
A round struck Nguyen once in the neck, near the left clavicle.
He died wearing a black UCLA baseball cap, a grey jacket, a white tank top, a grey T-shirt, a polo shirt, a pair of underwear, two pairs of basketball shorts, a pair of jeans, white socks and white tennis shoes, Bell wrote.
During an autopsy, the medical examiner discovered a tattoo that read, "SONG CHET Y TROC" which translates as "In God's hands."
Depsite the amount of evidence collected at the crime scene, a month after a brazen coffee house shooting, deputies still have few leads and no arrests have been made, authorities said.
Five others were wounded in the attack and taken to nearby hospitals, authorities said. Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although the coffee shop was full and over 30 witnesses were interviewed, no one got a clear look at the attackers, Marsh said.
"We don't know their nationality," he said. "Nobody gave us any specific information."
He said no one really saw them clearly, but witnesses believe the shooters were male Asians.
"We're working off information provided by witnesses, trying to follow on some leads," he said. "No suspects are named, we're just going off descriptions."
The coroner's report said Nguyen was found lying on his back in the coffee shop, and pronounced dead by paramedics.
Nguyen was 5 feet 6 inches tall and 116 pounds, according to the report.
The cause of death is listed as a single gunshot wound that entered through Nguyen's right shoulder, puncturing a lung.
Marsh said investigators do not know if the shooting was gang-related, though San Gabriel police have said the coffee shop and others like it in the area are known hang-outs for Asian gangs.

ROSEMEAD - A man and a teenage boy were killed and three others wounded early Saturday when two gunmen opened fire at a party in a hotel, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 2:20 a.m. at the Knights Inn, 3633 Rosemead Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff's and fire officials said.
Gustavo De La Torre, 27, of Temple City and Angel Guerrero, 15, of Palmdale died at the scene of the shooting, said Jerry McKibben, investigator with the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.
"The shooting occurred during the course of a large party," Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Rich Pena said.
"The two suspects entered the party and began shooting," he said, then fled on foot in an unknown direction. A

A description of the shooters was not released.
Family members of the dead man and teen, as well as the detectives handling the investigation, could not be reached for comment Saturday afternoon.
The shooting occurred in a second-floor room in the rear of the hotel. Neighboring rooms appeared to be vacant Saturday.
The only evidence of the shooting that remained was a strip of yellow crime scene tape strewn across the door of room No. 234.
The hotel manager could not be reached for comment.
An employee working the front desk at the hotel said she started her shift Saturday afternoon and had no information about the shooting.
A guest at the hotel - who asked his name not be published in fear of retaliation - said he was staying there with his family when the shooting occurred.
"All we heard was, `pow, pow, pow,"' he said. "Then we heard people running around." In all, he said he heard four or five shots.
Within minutes, the guest added, the area was swarming with sheriff's deputies and a sheriff's helicopter hovering overhead.
Guests were not allowed to leave the hotel premises as officials investigated, he said. "We couldn't even go to work today."
The guest said he did not hear the party prior to the shooting.
He added in the week prior to the shooting, the well-kept hotel seemed quiet and peaceful.
"This is a family place," he said. "It's really nice."

The shooting occurred outside of My-Dung Restaurant, on the 8200 block of Garvey Avenue, at about 9:10 p.m., said sheriff's Sgt. Roberta Granek at the Temple Station.
Granek said the gunman fired shots from a black Honda.
It was not immediately known whether those wounded were outside or inside the restaurant.
The victims were taken to hospitals by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, a county fire dispatch supervisor said.
Their wounds were believed to be non-life threatening, Granek said.

Victim remains in critical condition following Rosemead shooting
Four Asian men in their late teens or early 20s were injured in the shooting at 9 p.m. at the My-Dung restaurant near Garvey Avenue and San Gabriel Boulevard, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Pat Dolan said Tuesday.
One patient was in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his torso, while one man was in moderate condition following wounds to both thighs. Other victims suffered minor gunshot wounds, Dolan said.
A 15-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man were killed early Saturday when two gang members opened fire on a birthday party in a Rosemead Boulevard motel, Lt. Dan Rosenberg of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Homicide Bureau said.
Three other teenagers were wounded in the shooting, one of them critically, he said.
Two suspects were arrested Monday in connection to that shooting.
